Turned out that part was easy - Tim Fisher's excellent HowTo (I'll post the link if anyone wants it) told me to use Burnaware to create an ISO from the DVD, so that was a breeze. Only problem was I needed an ISO file to do this, and as we've just moved house, I had no idea where to find the original W7 ISO that I'd used to create my DVD. It also seemed like a good opportunity to vary my install method from DVD to flash drive. I used a bootable W7 repair disk (created within another running W7 system) to access the command line Diskpart sequence.
However, I was lazy and didn't check the BIOS before I started (which of course turned out to be UEFI) so after the W7 install finished and I tried to use the loader, I got the dreaded "Unsupported Partition Table" message, which brought me here to My Digital Life.Īfter reading this thread in detail it seemed like my only option was to use Diskpart, as per Daz's instructions, to change the GPT to MBR then do a reinstall. Next, I tried to do my usual W7 install from my multi-choice DVD\Daz Loader combo that I've used for several years. (It'll probably stay there now - too much trouble to split the case again) Anyway, got it done eventually and installed and formatted an old 160GB Sata II drive. Yeah, that's right - no separate access panel for the HDD.
But when I took another look I was kinda dismayed to find that I had to pull the case apart to change hard drives. The OS was W8.1 (which I didn't want) but the HP site showed W7 64bit drivers to be available, so I ordered it online, thinking to reformat the drive and install W7.Īfter the notebook arrived (and before I'd examined it closely), I decided it'd be safer to pull its hard drive and replace it with a spare, so if I screwed the operation I'd still have the original to fall back on. I didn't want to spend large so bought an HP 14 D054TU notebook that was on special. I'm a PC builder and tech who recently decided it was about time to get another laptop for typing Word stuff mostly. This IS about Daz's loader, so bear with me while I flesh out the preliminaries. I've joined the forum to firstly, thank Daz for his great work on the loaders, to thank all the others who've contributed to this thread (which I've pored over, the last 24 hours) and finally - to add a few cents worth to the info here.
